Dr. Mahdi Al-Alaq, former Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers and Chairman of the Organizing Association of the Conference, said: The conference is being held in Basra because it is a city worthy of attention due to the special economic and industrial activities it witnessed over the previous decades, in addition to the volume of oil and gas extraction operations and the petrochemical industries and their negative impact on the water environment and climate. soil and life. He added that the conference comes as a continuation of what concerns the Iraqi and international interest in Iraqi climate issues, which is (one of the five countries most affected by environmental changes in the world), noting that its sessions will witness the discussion of climate and environmental issues that were discussed in the Iraq Climate Conference.
