Green Finance Workshop in Iraq

As part of the cooperation between the International Labour Organization (ILO), its training center (ITCILO), the Central Bank of Iraq, and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, we participated in a specialized workshop on “Making Green Microfinance Effective: Managing Product Diversification,” which was held in Erbil for five days.

The five-day workshop focused on enabling financial institutions in Iraq to develop and diversify financial products that support green projects.

Through this workshop, participants representing commercial banks, microfinance institutions, and the Central Bank of Iraq gained practical tools for designing green financing products that contribute to promoting sustainable job opportunities and protecting the environment.

Main topics focused on:

  • - Developing green financing products for small and medium enterprises.
  • - Effective strategies for accessing emerging green markets.
  • - Aligning financial services with environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles.

Impact on the financial sector in Iraq

This workshop contributed to supporting Iraq's green growth strategy and provided financial institutions with the necessary tools to support the green sector, as part of the Central Bank of Iraq's 4 trillion dinar initiative.

We are proud of our team's participation in this valuable workshop and look forward to applying the acquired knowledge to promote sustainability and support environmental projects in Iraq.
